Front Equalizing Beam
Test fitting the forward equalizing beam in the new trunion

Front Equalizing Beam

Wednesday, March 24, 2021 by MC

The front equalizing beam transfers weight between the #1 driver and the lead truck. Here we are checking to ensure fit in the new trunion that it rides in under the saddle of the locomotive. The original trunion was broken during disassembly and so we fabricated the new one (in primer on the table). New bushings were also fitted in the beam as well as in the trunion and a new pin was machined. The end that Robert is steadying in the foreground rides on a seat in the center of the lead truck and the hooked end that John is holding hangs in the hanger link shown in the November 11th photograph.
