Hanger modification
Equalizing beam hanger link prior to modification

Hanger modification

Wednesday, November 11, 2020 by MC

A key component in the suspension system of the locomotive is this hanger for the aft end of the equalizing beam between the lead truck and the #1 driver. It is obvious that the lower end that carries the beam is badly worn, so we decided to replace the worn cross piece. Initial installation revealed that a previous modification of this piece (note the weld in the center of the link) was done incorrectly and the it also had to be lengthened.
